In response to questions from the market, Nutrilab has further expanded the LC-MSMS screening method for allergens, so that we can now even better distinguish the various types of mustard and related Brassicaceae, such as rapeseed and canola. The incentive for this expansion were reports of the possible contamination of Italian wheat with mustard. It came to light that there is no reference method for the identification of allergenic proteins from mustard and that existing test kits based on ELISA or PCR are not sufficiently specific or can even give false positive results. Therefore, it remained uncertain what caused the positive results, mustard or a related cruciferous (Brassicaceae). With our method we can now provide a definite answer.
